Notes from our Sunday Conference with Diana...
June 2, 2013
“Celebrate Mistakes!” - Ben Zander – Road Trip Nation
Warm up with 3 sun salutations, chaturanga and snake-dogs/pelvic dogs
Chaturanga Dandasana - Drishti is about 6-8” on the floor from the edge of your mat.
1st version: With your exhalation, slowly lower your torso and legs to a few inches above and parallel to the floor. There's a tendency in this pose for the lower back to sway toward the floor and the tailbone to poke up toward the ceiling. Throughout your “holding” in this position, keep the tailbone firmly level in place and the legs very active and sitbones turned slightly inward. Belly strong.
2nd version: With your exhalation, jump back into chaturanga. With this version, there is a tendency to “sway” the lower back area. Turn sitbones/hip flexors inward and bandhas engaged.
More mindfulness for either version above: Keep the space between the shoulder blades broad. Don't splay the elbows out to the sides; hold them in by the sides of the torso and push them back toward the heels. Press the bases of the index fingers firmly to the floor. Lift the top of the sternum, align your head with the length of your spine and eyes looking forward.to your drishti.
Good form – refine your stirha/sukha – very light and graceful, like a leopard.
Be mindful with gracefulness and lightness in your practice
Continue researching poses prior to your practice along with the 2nd series poses.
“Hey, I don't have all the answers.
In life, to be honest, I failed as much as I have succeeded.
But I love my wife. I love my life. And I wish you my kind of success.”
~ as Dicky Fox, Jerry’s mentor from the movie, “Jerry Maguire”
