Notes from our Sunday Conference with Diana

July 7, 2013

Brief overview of Shala’s history: significances of Hermit, lanterns, deities, etc.

9th Year Celebration
Sunday, July 21 (Eve of Full Moon) – 6-8 p.m. -  puja/potluck
July - A dedication to our beloved teacher, Guruji, and to our practice

Quote from Sri K. Pattabhi Jois - Yoga Mala:
“For now, let us say that the meaning of yoga is “upaya” which means path or way which
we follow or by way of which we can attain something.”

“Meditation is not a means to an end.  It is both the means and the end.”
~ J Krishnamurti – Buddha is as Buddha Does

Key thoughts/words for this auspicious year:
“Mindfulness” vs. Mindlessness
Path/Upaya:  “Transformation” and “Sustainability”

Transformation:  changes in body and spirit – wisdom (looking bird)
Sustainabililty:  what we do to nourish our body and spirit – koshas

No attachments – no “moving forward or moving backward,” but moving toward strength – Refinement in all the corners of our lives.

Homework:

Bring your small jade plant or sprig to Shala

Weekly Messages:

“How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.”  - Annie Dillard

“It’s not about where an adventure ends because that is not what an adventure is.”
– Movie: So I bought a Zoo
