What are we studying this semester? PRANA – energetic breath/life force
Pattabhi Jois’s “Yoga Mala,” not only illustrates how to properly enter an asana, but also the benefits.
Benefits of yoga: Bone-health – weight-bearing keeps the skeletal structure strong; keeps muscles long, healthy, lean and strong; since we’re 70% water, circulation of bodily fluids through breath work; engaging the bandhas to lock in the energy.
Chakras – energy centers – the human body contains 7 energy centers and
72,000 energy meridians.
Study our “spirit body” with study of the 7 chakras. Paraphrase from Myss’s “Anatomy of the Spirit” –“Data banks in our bodies where you invest your spirit.”
Storytelling time: The miracles of the monarch butterfly; the transformational “process”; miraculous, inspiring, spiritual. Started with a milkweed plant ->eggs laid-> 7-10 days caterpillars appear -> 7-10 days caterpillar forms a “J” and connects to a branch to chrysalis;
-> 7-10 days later the magical cells form the butterfly.
Einstein: "There are two ways to live: you can live as if nothing is a miracle;
you can live as if everything is a miracle."
Analogy: The caterpillar is the “muladhara” chakra as it is “closest to the ground.” As the caterpillar morphs from the chrysalis, and then to a butterfly, we move to higher ground, higher health.
Homework: This semester’s conferences will refer to Caroline Myss’s, “Anatomy of the Spirit.”
Read: Foreword, Preface and Introduction.
